Normally two to three years. We shorten it.
You'll likely find the same problems that we see every day, so I've created cuts to fix them. Simple enough for a newly qualified stylist, deep enough for an experienced one. Clients come back for them by name, years later. You're not learning three haircuts, you're learning the method behind them.

Weeks 1 to 3 are on your own mannequin, 10am to 5pm. Week 4 is a real client, models provided, and it's where you get signed off. Finish the sprint and the short hair sprint opens up. You'll leave with a certificate, and with the ability to look at a client's hair, find the real problem and offer the fix. Mannequin heads included, a one-to-one mentoring hour with Noel on your career, and a place in the mentorship group between sessions. Course students get every new date two days before anyone else.

Two sprints. Long hair first, because the sectioning has to be automatic before short hair makes any sense.
Every week runs 10am to 5pm, six students to one teacher, at NOCO Hair in Clifton. Your mannequin head is included and yours to keep: look after it and it should last four or five sessions, and when it has finally gone too short we’ll give you another. Weeks 1 to 3 are the playground, so make your mistakes there and not on a client. Week 4 is earned: pass the mannequin work and you’re on a live model. Your place is held as soon as you’ve paid, with a full refund up to 48 hours before the first day.
I'm Noel. I co-own NOCO Hair in Clifton, one of Bristol's busiest salons, and I've spent the last decade turning what I do on the salon floor into frameworks anyone can learn. I designed the Vitality, Clifton and Fusion Cuts, and the sectioning six-pack that runs through all of them. The courses are that method, taught the way I teach my own team. The aim is simple: raise the standard of hairdressers everywhere by blending human connection and modern technique.
Salons can't afford to train people the way they used to. Ours included. There are good hairdressers we haven't been able to help by employing them, and across the industry that number grows every year.
So I teach outside the salon instead. Employed or self-employed, we're one industry, and that divide doesn't need to be there. What has to change is how people learn.
Hairdressers make people happy for a living. A high street without them would be a worse place. This is my bit.

Any hairdresser with a Level 2 qualification. Just qualified or ten years in, everybody starts on long hair, because sectioning is where confidence comes from at every level. Short hair comes after that, and you can join the Short Hair list any time. Not for apprentices or complete beginners yet.
Three long hair cuts on one method, each on your own mannequin: the Vitality Cut, connected; the Clifton Cut, disconnection; and the Fusion Cut, long layers. Then a live model, models provided, which is where you get signed off. Mannequin heads are included, and so is a one-to-one mentoring hour with Noel on your career and a place in the mentorship group between sessions. You leave with a certificate and with the ability to look at a client's hair, find the real problem and offer the fix.
Plenty do, and it is worth it. Nobody masters sectioning first time, and the simple things done right are what make you confident on a real client. The cut has not changed but you have, and you take it further.
The last day, and the one where you cut a real person and get signed off. Same six to one, at NOCO Hair, models provided, included in the price. You get to it once you have finished the mannequin work and we have seen what you can do, and a group that starts together usually gets there together.
Scissors, comb, clips, a notebook. Your mannequin head is included and yours to keep. If you would rather cut on the Allilon mannequin, bring your own, they are about £120 from Allilon. On the live model day at our salon we provide the models, unless there is someone specific you would like to work on. If we come to your salon, you provide the models.
Tell us early. With at least 48 hours' notice we will move you onto the same session in the next group, subject to places.
Cancel up to 48 hours before your first day and we will refund you in full, no questions. Inside 48 hours we cannot, because your place has been held and your mannequin head is ordered.
It's rare, but with one teacher it can happen. If we ever have to cancel a date, you choose: move to the next date, or a full refund. We'll tell you at least a week ahead wherever we can. The same goes for the room: sessions run at NOCO Hair in Clifton, and if we ever have to move a session to another venue we'll tell you as soon as we know, and refund you in full if the new one doesn't work for you.
Yes. Salon owners: we run the mannequin days and the live model day on your own floor for your team, and you provide the models for the live model day. Colleges and educators: Noel comes in and cuts live for your students. Say which you are in the chat and we'll call you to work out the details.
